Sinus Lift New York

If you’re a candidate for dental implants but your maxillary sinuses are located too closely to your upper jaw bone, a procedure called a sinus lift can be performed to create enough space in the jaw for the placement of dental implants. SmilesNY offers sinus lift surgery in New York.

What is a Sinus Lift?

A sinus lift is a simple surgical procedure performed on patients whose sinus cavities are too close to the jaw bone for the successful placement of implants. In order for the dental implants to be placed, our surgeon will gently lift the sinuses away from the upper jawbone. Once there is an adequate amount of space between the maxillary sinuses and the jaw, grafts of bone may be used and dental implants can be placed. Over time, the bone grafts are absorbed by the jaw, contributing to the formation of new bone cells. The grafts convert to new, living bone cells, replacing the bone loss caused by missing teeth or periodontal disease.

When is a Sinus Lift necessary?

A sinus lift is a special type of procedure necessary when the maxillary sinuses are too close to the jaw bone for implant placement. It is performed on patients who have experienced bone loss in the jaw as a result of missing teeth or periodontal disease.

How is a Sinus Lift used with Dental Implants?

In many cases, there is an insufficient amount of bone in the jaw to support dental implants, requiring the patient to undergo a bone grafting procedure. When there is not enough space between the upper jaw and the sinus cavity, the sinus membrane has to be moved upward before bone grafts can be placed in preparation for dental implants in NY.

What bone grafting materials are used during a Sinus Lift?

Each patient is different, and the source of your bone grafts will depend on several factors. Bone grafts used during a sinus lift can be harvested from other parts of your body (autografts), from cadavers (allografts), or from synthetic bone substances. Kevin Loshak D.D.S., SmilesNY’s on-site periodontist, will work with you to decide which option is best for your individual case.

How is a Sinus Lift performed?

A sinus lift is a simple procedure performed in our office by our on-site periodontist, Kevin Loshak D.D.S. During the procedure, Dr. Loshak will make a small incision in your gum, allowing him to access the jaw bone; he will then gently move the sinus up creating space for bone grafting material and dental implants.
